Get a job as a teacher

"I didn't always want to be a teacher. In fact, I envisioned that I would become a high-powered attorney making tons of money. That was until I worked in a law firm owned by a female attorney who had 4 kids (I eventually want to have 4 kids as well). She never saw her kids. Occassionally, her husband would bring the children in to say a quick "hi" to their mom before they were off to the country club or day trip. I heard another attorney tell her, "It seems like you're a victim of your own success." I guess to each their own, but this wasn't the way I wanted to live. That eye-opening summer came the summer before my senior year at Boston College. My thoughts: Oh crap, what am I going to do now?! I had selected a double major of political science and history because I read somewhere that they were the best majors for potential law school students. With no plans on becoming a political analyst or historian, and no plans of doing an extra year or two at BC to pursue a different career, I had to think fast. My mom suggested teaching. Hmmmmm... I did enjoy the substitue teaching that I did one summer and I had flashbacks to my childhood of setting my stuffed animals in rows as my "class," putting on my church dresses and glasses for the perfect teaching outfit, teaching my "class" something new, then promptly filling out their "grades" in my gradebook (paper stapled together that I drew lines on to record the check pluses, check minuses, checks, and zeros that the "class" received). I might be able to do this afterall! To make a long story short, after almost hyperventilating in my first interview (Ms. Cockfield a very sweet, grandmotherly figure that worked at Paterson Public School #28 actually told me to relax) I got the job on the spot!! "
